Account Security
What this feature does
Account security helps you protect your Servinn dashboard by managing your password. You can change your password at any time to keep your account safe, especially if you think someone else might have access to it or if you simply want to use a stronger password. Regular password updates add an important layer of protection to your business data, ensuring that only you can access your orders, payments, and customer information.
Who it is for
This feature is essential for all Servinn users - business owners, managers, and staff members alike. Anyone who values the security of their business information should use this feature regularly. It's especially important if you share devices with others, access your account from public computers, or suspect that your password may have been compromised.
When to use it
You should update your password in several situations:
Every few months as routine maintenance: Regular password changes help keep your account secure, even if nothing seems wrong
If you suspect unauthorized access: Change your password immediately if you notice unusual activity in your account or receive unexpected notifications
When leaving a shared workspace: Update your password if you've signed in on a public or shared computer and forgot to sign out
After staff turnover: If a team member who knew your password leaves your business, change it promptly
When creating a stronger password: Replace simple or commonly-used passwords with more complex ones to better protect your account
Key concepts
Current Password: This is your existing password - the one you currently use to sign in. You need to enter it first to prove that you're the authorized account owner before making any changes.
New Password: This is the password you want to start using. Choose something memorable but difficult for others to guess. A good password typically includes a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols, and is at least 8 characters long.
Password Confirmation: You'll need to type your new password twice to make sure there are no typing errors. This prevents you from accidentally locking yourself out with a mistyped password.
Password Requirements: While the system has some basic requirements for password strength, you should aim for passwords that are both secure and memorable. Consider using a passphrase - a sentence or series of words that's easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess.
Immediate Effect: Once you successfully change your password, you'll need to use the new password for all future sign-ins. Make sure you remember it or store it securely in a password manager.
Common questions
What makes a strong password?
A strong password is at least 8 characters long and includes a mix of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid using easily guessable information like your name, business name, or common words like "password123". Instead, consider using a memorable phrase with some letters replaced by numbers or symbols, such as "Coff33Shop!2026".
What happens if I forget my new password right after changing it?
You can use the "Forgot Password" link on the sign-in page to reset your password. You'll receive a password reset link via email, which will let you create a new password and regain access to your account.
Will changing my password sign me out of other devices?
Changing your password typically doesn't automatically sign you out of other devices where you're already logged in. However, for maximum security, you should manually sign out of any devices or browsers you no longer use after updating your password.
How often should I change my password?
There's no strict rule, but updating your password every 2-3 months is a good security practice. At minimum, change it whenever you suspect your account security may have been compromised or after any situation where others might have seen or learned your password.
Can I reuse an old password?
While the system may allow you to reuse previous passwords, it's not recommended for security reasons. Each new password should be unique and different from passwords you've used before. This prevents someone who learned an old password from accessing your account in the future.
