tagsAdding Products and Items

What this feature does

Adding products and items allows you to populate your catalog with the specific offerings customers can order or purchase from your business. Each item includes essential details like name, description, price, and an image, giving customers all the information they need to make informed decisions. These items appear within the categories you've created, making it easy for customers to browse and place orders.

Who it is for

This feature is for business owners, managers, and staff members who need to add new offerings to the catalog. Whether you're launching a new menu item, adding a room type, or stocking a new product, this tool ensures your catalog stays current and complete.

When to use it

You should add a new product or item when:

  • Setting up your initial catalog for the first time

  • Introducing new offerings to your business (new dishes, room types, or products)

  • Launching seasonal or limited-time items

  • Restocking items that were previously unavailable

  • Expanding your product line or menu

  • Updating your offerings based on customer demand or inventory changes

Key concepts

Item name: The name customers will see when browsing your catalog. Use clear, descriptive names that help customers understand what they're ordering. For example, "Grilled Chicken Sandwich" is more helpful than just "Sandwich."

Item description: A brief explanation of what the item includes. This is your chance to highlight special ingredients, preparation methods, or features that make the item appealing. For restaurants, mention key ingredients or flavors. For hotels, describe room amenities. For retail, explain product features or uses.

Price: The amount customers will pay for this item. Enter just the number without currency symbols. The system automatically displays prices in your business's currency. If you have taxes enabled, you can choose whether this price includes or excludes tax.

Item image: A photo of your offering that helps customers visualize what they're ordering. High-quality, appetizing photos significantly improve customer engagement and order confidence. While optional, images are highly recommended for better sales.

Availability status: A toggle that controls whether this specific item is visible and orderable by customers. When availability is turned on, customers can see and order the item. When turned off, the item is temporarily hidden without being deleted, perfect for items that are out of stock or not available today.

Tax inclusive pricing: If your venue has taxes enabled, you can indicate whether the price you entered already includes tax or if tax should be added on top. When tax-inclusive is turned on, the system shows customers a breakdown of the base price and tax components.

Common questions

chevron-rightHow many items can I add to a category?hashtag

There's no limit to the number of items you can add to a category. Add as many as you need to represent your full range of offerings. However, organizing very large catalogs into multiple well-defined categories helps customers navigate more easily.

chevron-rightCan I add the same item to multiple categories?hashtag

Currently, each item belongs to one category. If you offer an item that could fit in multiple places, choose the category where customers are most likely to look for it. You can always move items between categories by editing them later.

chevron-rightWhat happens if I don't upload an image?hashtag

Items without images will still appear in your catalog, but they'll show a placeholder image instead. While you can add items without photos, customer engagement and ordering rates are typically much higher when items have appealing, high-quality images.

chevron-rightHow do I set different prices for different sizes or variations?hashtag

Each item entry represents one specific offering at one price. If you offer multiple sizes or variations, create separate items for each one. For example, create "Small Coffee," "Medium Coffee," and "Large Coffee" as three separate items with their respective prices.

chevron-rightCan I temporarily hide an item without deleting it?hashtag

Yes, absolutely. Use the availability toggle to turn off an item when it's temporarily unavailable. This keeps all your item details saved while hiding it from customers. When you're ready to offer it again, simply turn availability back on. This is much easier than deleting and recreating items.
