Switching Between Venues

What this feature does

If you operate multiple business locations—like several restaurant branches, multiple hotel properties, or different retail stores—the venue switching feature lets you view and manage each location separately without logging out or switching accounts. With just a couple of clicks, you can jump from viewing one venue's orders and revenue to another's. All your locations are accessible from a single dashboard, making multi-location management straightforward and efficient.

Who it is for

Venue switching is primarily designed for:

  • Business owners managing multiple locations or franchises

  • Regional managers overseeing several properties

  • Multi-location operators who need to monitor different branches throughout the day

Staff members typically work at a single location, so they'll see which venue they're assigned to but won't have the ability to switch between venues. This keeps things simple and ensures everyone sees only the information relevant to their work.

When to use it

You'll want to switch venues whenever you need to:

  • Check on a different location's performance without leaving your dashboard

  • Compare sales or orders between your various locations

  • Respond to issues at a specific branch that needs attention

  • Process or review orders from a particular venue

  • View location-specific reports and payment data

  • Manage staff, catalog, or entry points for different properties

Each time you switch venues, everything on your screen updates to show that location's information—from the dashboard metrics to orders, payments, and reports.

Key concepts

  • Main Venue: When you first set up your account, one of your locations becomes your "main venue." This is the default location that appears whenever you log in. Think of it as your home base. You can change which venue is your main venue in your settings if your priorities shift.

  • Venue Dropdown Menu: This is where you switch between locations. You'll find it in the top right corner of your screen, next to your profile picture. When you click on your name or avatar, a menu drops down showing all your venues. Owners and managers will see the full list with radio buttons next to each location name.

  • Active Venue: This is the venue you're currently viewing. When you open the venue dropdown menu, you'll see a filled radio button next to the active venue's name. All the data on your screen—orders, revenue, payments—relates to this specific location until you switch to a different one.

  • URL Parameter: When you switch venues, you'll notice the web address in your browser changes slightly. It adds something like "?venue=your-venue-name" to the end. This is helpful because you can bookmark specific venues for quick access, or share direct links to a particular location's dashboard with your team members.

  • Venue Slug: Behind the scenes, each venue has a unique identifier called a "slug." It's a simplified, web-friendly version of your venue name. For example, "Joe's Coffee Downtown" might become "joes-coffee-downtown." You don't need to worry about this—the system handles it automatically—but you might see it in your browser's address bar.

  • Role-Based Access: What you can do with venue switching depends on your role. Owners and managers can switch freely between all venues they oversee. Staff members, however, will only see a message indicating which single venue they're assigned to work at. This prevents confusion and keeps staff focused on their specific location.

  • Synchronized Navigation: When you switch venues, your current page stays the same—you just see different data. If you're viewing the Orders page and switch venues, you'll still be on the Orders page, just looking at the new venue's orders. The entire dashboard seamlessly updates to reflect your selected location.

Common questions

chevron-rightHow do I switch from one venue to another?hashtag

It's simple! Look for your profile picture or name in the top right corner of your dashboard. Click on it to open a dropdown menu. You'll see a section that says "All [venue name] venues" with an arrow next to it. Click this to expand the list of all your locations. Each venue will have a radio button next to its name. Simply click the radio button next to the venue you want to view, and the entire dashboard will update to show that location's information. The menu will close automatically, and you're all set.

chevron-rightCan I view data from multiple venues at the same time?hashtag

Not on the main dashboard. The dashboard is designed to show one venue at a time so you can focus on each location's specific performance without information overload. However, if you need to compare multiple locations, you can open multiple browser tabs or windows, switch to a different venue in each tab, and view them side by side. For consolidated multi-venue analysis, you'll want to use the Reports section where you can generate reports for specific venues or time periods.

chevron-rightI added a new venue, but I don't see it in my venue list. Why not?hashtag

If you just created a new venue, try refreshing your browser page. Sometimes new venues take a moment to appear in the dropdown list. If it's still missing after refreshing, make sure the venue was successfully created by going to the Venues section of your dashboard. You should see it listed there. If you see it in the Venues section but not in the dropdown menu, try logging out and logging back in.

chevron-rightWhat happens to my view if someone deletes the venue I'm currently looking at?hashtag

If the venue you're viewing gets deleted (by you or another administrator), the system will automatically redirect you to your main venue. You won't lose any work, but you'll need to switch to a different location if you were in the middle of something at that venue. For this reason, we recommend coordinating with your team before deleting any venues.

chevron-rightAs a staff member, why can't I switch between venues?hashtag

This is by design for simplicity and security. Staff members are typically assigned to work at one specific location, so showing data from multiple venues would be confusing and unnecessary. You'll see a message like "Working at [venue name]" in your profile dropdown, which tells you which location you're assigned to. If you need access to multiple venues, ask your manager or business owner to adjust your role or permissions.

chevron-rightDoes switching venues affect what my team members see?hashtag

No, not at all. When you switch venues on your dashboard, it only changes what you see on your screen. Other team members will continue viewing whatever venue they have selected. Everyone has their own independent view. This means multiple managers can work on different locations simultaneously without interfering with each other's work.

chevron-rightCan I set different venues as my default for different times of day?hashtag

The system uses one main venue as your default, which appears whenever you log in. However, once you're logged in, you can switch to any venue and stay there for as long as you want. Your selected venue persists even if you navigate to different pages (Orders, Payments, Reports, etc.). The system will remember your last selected venue during your session. When you log out and log back in, you'll return to your main venue. If you find yourself always switching to a particular venue, consider changing your main venue in the Settings area.
